Today morning, at approximately 5 a.m., fireballs streaked across the sky over western Poland as remnants of a Falcon 9 rocket, operated by SpaceX, burned up in the atmosphere following its launch. The dramatic spectacle was visible to residents in the region, sparking concerns about potential debris falling to the ground.
Polish emergency services are now investigating whether a fragment of the rocket landed near the city of Poznań. Reports indicate that a mysterious tank-like object fell onto private property in Komorniki, a town near Poznań. The facility closely resembles a Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel (COPV) tank—similar to one that fell on a farm in Washington state on April 2, 2021.
“A tank identical to the one that fell in Washington has been found! There is no doubt that it is a COPV tank,” stated Karol Wójcicki, an astronomer and science communicator, on his fan page.
Upon receiving the report, police arrived at the scene and subsequently called in the fire brigade. The reporting individual claimed that an object had crashed onto the premises of an electrical warehouse located on Kolejowa Street in Komorniki. Authorities took immediate action, restricting photography at the site and initiating a thorough investigation to assess any potential risks.
According to epoznan.pl, mining and pyrotechnic reconnaissance units were deployed to examine the mysterious object. Poznań police spokesperson Łukasz Paterski confirmed that officers received information about the discovery around 9:20 a.m.
“Employees of a company in Komorniki found an unidentified object resembling a tank on their premises. Fortunately, no injuries were reported,” Paterski stated.
Authorities, including firefighters and specialized reconnaissance personnel, are currently working to determine the origin of the object.
“We are securing the scene and investigating how this object ended up here. We are aware that Falcon rocket debris passed over Poland, but we cannot yet confirm whether this is a part of it,” Paterski added.
The investigation remains ongoing, with officials urging residents to report any additional findings of unidentified debris.
