The Department of Foreigners’ Affairs at the Mazovia Voivodeship Office has issued an urgent reminder to all foreign residents in Poland: inform the authorities of any change of address promptly. Failing to do so could lead to significant delays, unresolved cases, or even forced departures from the country.
“Every fourth letter we send is returned due to non-delivery or non-collection. This amounts to approximately 3,500 documents per month,” said a spokesperson from the Foreigners Department. “These returned documents not only delay proceedings but can jeopardize the outcomes of residence applications. Don’t let this happen to you.”
The Importance of Keeping Your Address Updated
Informing the Department of Foreigners’ Affairs about a change in address ensures:
- Timely receipt of all official correspondence.
- Avoidance of additional verification processes for residence.
- A smoother process for obtaining residence permits.
Failure to update your address could have severe consequences, including:
- Missing deadlines to supplement formal or material deficiencies in your application, potentially leading to case dismissal or a negative decision.
- Termination of proceedings if you miss an appointment for fingerprinting or providing explanations.
Options for Managing Mail
Foreigners facing challenges in receiving mail—such as those living in student dormitories or staff accommodations—are encouraged to explore alternative solutions:
- Appoint a Proxy: You can delegate someone to receive mail on your behalf using a power of attorney for deliveries. Templates are available online.
- Rent a PO Box: A secure and reliable option at your local post office.
How to Notify a Change of Address
If your address changes, act immediately:
- Prepare a written notification in Polish, ensuring all details are legible and accurate.
- Submit the letter in one of two ways:
- By post: Send it to the office at ul. Marszałkowska 3/5, 00-624 Warsaw.
- In person: Submit it at the registry office by booking an appointment online.
Helpful Resources:
- Sample letters and application forms are available on the Migrant WSC website.
- For address changes involving a move to another province, additional applications must be completed to transfer the case.
A Campaign for Awareness
The ongoing campaign aims to raise awareness among foreign residents about the legal requirements for staying in Poland, with a focus on increasing knowledge about entry and residence rules. Ensuring all steps are followed will help streamline the process of obtaining residence cards and maintaining legal status.
“Stay in Poland legally. Act wisely—don’t be fooled,” reminds the Foreigners Department.
