In a shocking incident, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his home during an attempted burglary in the early hours of Thursday morning. The intruder, who remains unidentified, stabbed the actor during a scuffle, leaving him with a major spinal injury and other wounds.
According to the Mumbai Police, the incident occurred around 2:30 am in Khan’s upscale Mumbai residence. The assailant reportedly used the fire escape to gain entry into the house and initially confronted a member of the household staff. When Saif Ali Khan intervened to defuse the situation, the intruder turned violent, attacking him with a knife.
Surgery to Remove Knife from Spine
The actor was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where a team of doctors successfully removed a 2.5-inch fragment of the knife lodged in his thoracic spine. Dr. Nitin Dange, who led the surgery, reported that Khan also suffered spinal fluid leakage, which has been repaired. Additional deep wounds on his left hand and neck required attention from the hospital’s plastic surgery team.
“Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery, and doctors are monitoring his progress,” Dr. Dange said.
Police Investigation Underway
Dixit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 9, confirmed that the primary motive behind the attack was burglary. “The accused used the fire escape to enter the house. During the confrontation with Saif Ali Khan, the situation escalated, resulting in the attack. Police teams are actively investigating the case and working to identify and apprehend the intruder,” Gedam stated.
The actor’s youngest child, Jeh, was reportedly the first target of the assailant, heightening the tension of the event. Saif Ali Khan’s family, including his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children, are safe, according to a statement from his team.

In a public statement, Khan’s team assured fans that the actor is stable and recovering, while requesting patience and understanding. “This is a police matter. We request the media and fans to respect the family’s privacy during this time.”
The incident has sparked widespread concern across Bollywood and among fans. Colleagues and admirers have flooded social media with messages of support and prayers for Khan’s swift recovery.
