Shri Jayant N. Khobragade, a distinguished officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) from the 1995 batch, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Poland. He will succeed his predecessor and is expected to assume his new responsibilities shortly.
Currently serving as India’s Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, Mr. Khobragade brings a wealth of diplomatic experience to his new assignment. Over his illustrious career, he has held significant roles both in India and abroad.
International Experience
Mr. Khobragade has served in key positions at Indian missions in Moscow (Russia), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Madrid (Spain), and as India’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan. These roles have equipped him with deep insights into international diplomacy and strengthened India’s ties with these regions.
Domestic Contributions
In India, Mr. Khobragade has held pivotal roles in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Department of Atomic Energy. His assignments include:
- Deputy Secretary/Director of the Disarmament & International Security Affairs (D&ISA) Division of MEA.
- Joint Secretary of the West Africa Division of MEA.
- Joint Secretary (External Relations) in the Department of Atomic Energy.
Additionally, he led the highly acclaimed Passport Seva Programme (PSP), streamlining passport services across the country and enhancing India’s citizen service delivery mechanisms.

An engineering graduate in Electrical Engineering, Mr. Khobragade combines technical acumen with his extensive diplomatic expertise.
