Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has this morning insisted that domestic forces are in control of Kyiv, despite reports of fighting overnight.
In a video speech, Mr. Zelenskyy says, “We are successfully holding back the enemy’s attack. We know that we are defending our land and the future of our children. He added, “Kyiv and the key areas are controlled by our army.
“Occupiers wanted to set up their puppets in our capital. They didn’t succeed.” He added that the Ukrainian people have “earned the right” to European Union membership, and this would be a “key moment of support”.
President Zelenskyy, who is in Kyiv, added that he hopes Hungary and Germany will “have the courage” to boycott Russia’s use of the SWIFT interbank messaging system. He ended his statement with a plea to those who have fled Ukraine to come back and fight for their country.
“Everyone who can defend Ukraine abroad please do it, Every friend of Ukraine who wants to join Ukraine in defending the country please come over we will provide you with weapons,” said President Zelenskyy.
“Everyone who is defending Ukraine is a hero.”
