8 March, International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. Women stand at the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis, as health care workers, caregivers, innovators, community organizers and as some of the most exemplary and effective national leaders in combating the pandemic.
The day has been designated as an official United Nations observance since 1975, which was International Women’s Year, and is a national holiday in many parts of the world. However, the day’s origins go much further back than 1975 — and are more radical than what we might expect from a day so widely celebrated. A National Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time in the U.S. on Feb. 28, 1909, spearheaded by the Socialist Party of America.
This year’s theme for the International Women’s Day is “Stronger Together”, and it is organized in Poland by Charkha along with Uniq Traveler. Its an online event, and those who join the event will get an opportunity to have an interactive session with few successful women in Poland. The guest speakers are Minakshi Sharma, Woman in business; Malva, Work life balance; Aleksandra, Make up; and Sayali, YouTube Vlogging. Event will be held on 7 March 2021 at 1300hrs CET.
