There is a nationwide media strike in Poland today. TVN24 and Polsat News have not been operating since this morning. There will be no news articles published on websites of TVN24, Onet and Interia.

Most of the private media are protesting in the joint action “Media without a choice”. At the beginning of February, a bill was entered into the list of government legislative works, the consequence of which will be the introduction of a tax for internet and conventional advertising. It is about a bill on additional revenues for the National Health Fund and for the Fund to support Culture and National Heritage.

“The tax on advertising will weaken or even liquidate some of the media operating in our country. The role of the media is not to deal with the effects of a pandemic. This is the role of the government. Our task is to provide reliable information. There is no free country without independent media” – says Radio Zet.
