India-Poland Parliamentary Delegation Meeting Strengthens Bilateral Ties

A high-level parliamentary delegation from Poland, led by Pawel Kowal, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Polish Parliament, met with Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, at Parliament House in New Delhi today. According to a press statement issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, the meeting was marked by warm exchanges and discussions focused on enhancing bilateral ties, particularly in parliamentary cooperation.

Welcoming the Polish delegation, Harivansh underscored the deep-rooted and evolving relationship between India and Poland. He described Poland as India’s most important partner in Central Europe, highlighting the multifaceted growth of this partnership over the years. The relationship has expanded to include political exchanges, trade and investment, and cultural and academic collaborations, reflecting its strategic significance.

Celebrating 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Harivansh noted that the year 2024 marked the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Poland. This milestone presents a valuable opportunity to reaffirm bilateral commitments and celebrate their enduring friendship, which has been elevated to a strategic partnership. He emphasized that this strengthened cooperation opens avenues for enhanced engagement in key sectors such as trade, defence, energy security, and technology.

One of the focal points of the meeting was the role of parliamentary engagements in fostering closer ties between the two nations. Harivansh highlighted the significance of the India-Poland Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Polish Parliament as a vital initiative aimed at bolstering inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Boosting Inter-Parliamentary and Academic Exchanges

Expressing optimism about further collaboration, Harivansh conveyed hopes for reciprocal visits by Indian members of Parliament to Poland. Such exchanges, he stated, would reinforce inter-parliamentary relations and contribute to a deeper understanding between the two nations.

Additionally, he welcomed the growing interest among Polish scholars and students in contemporary Indian studies. Recognizing the importance of cultural and academic linkages, he emphasized the need to facilitate closer academic exchanges to further strengthen people-to-people bonds between India and Poland.
