Government Tightens Rules for 800 Plus Benefit: What Parents Need to Know

Significant changes have been implemented in the eligibility criteria for the widely popular 800 Plus child benefit in Poland. This program, previously accessible to all underage children in the country, now requires beneficiaries to meet additional conditions related to education.

This policy shift has resulted in a 20,000-child decrease in recipients, while 33,000 children have been moved to Polish institutions to meet the new requirements. Below, we break down what this means for parents and the steps they must take to ensure their children continue receiving the benefit.

Who Is Eligible for 800 Plus?

Under the new rules, children must now be enrolled in compulsory education to qualify for the benefit. This includes:

  • One-year preschool preparation in kindergarten.
  • Primary school compulsory education.
  • Post-primary school compulsory education.

However, there are two notable exceptions to this requirement:

  1. Children who are too young to start their educational journey.
  2. Children in their final years of secondary school who are no longer bound by the compulsory education mandate.

Application Deadline: February 1 to April 30, 2025

Parents and legal guardians must submit their applications between Saturday, February 1, and Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to ensure uninterrupted payments. Missing this deadline could result in delays or even the loss of compensation for prior months.

How to Apply for 800 Plus

Applications can only be submitted electronically using one of the following platforms:

  • PUE ZUS platform.
  • mZUS mobile application.
  • Emp@tia portal.
  • Electronic banking services.

Early submission is highly encouraged to avoid complications or missed payments.

Impact of the Changes

The introduction of educational conditions to the 800 Plus benefit has sparked discussions among parents and policymakers alike. While the new rules aim to align the benefit with educational priorities, they have also caused a notable decline in the number of eligible recipients.

Parents must stay informed about the latest requirements and take prompt action to secure this financial support. For many, the 800 Plus program remains a vital resource in raising and educating their children.
