NCERT to Introduce “Operation Sindoor” Modules in Curriculum for Classes 3–12

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is preparing to roll out specially designed educational modules on Operation Sindoor across Indian school curricula, covering students from Classes 3 to 12. The modules, currently in advanced stages of development, aim to introduce children to key aspects of India’s military response and strategic strength.

Structured Modules for Different Age Groups

NCERT is producing two separate modules:

  • Classes 3–8
  • Classes 9–12
Each will be a standalone supplement of approximately eight to ten pages, designed to provide age-appropriate explanations of the operation and its significance.

These educational materials will not be part of the main textbooks, but offered as supplementary reading—typical of NCERT’s approach to thematic modules such as Viksit Bharat, Chandrayaan, G20, and more.

The Focus: Operation Sindoor & National Defense

Operation Sindoor refers to precision strikes carried out on May 7, 2025, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir (PoK), as retaliation for a terror attack in Pahalgam earlier in April 2025.

The modules aim to educate students on:

  • India’s coordinated military and diplomatic response
  • The role of defence, strategic communication, and intelligence in safeguarding national security
  • The broader implications of Operation Sindoor for regional stability and India’s deterrence posture

Supporting Themes and Holistic Curriculum

Alongside Operation Sindoor, NCERT’s upcoming modules will address other national milestones, including:

  • Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment)
  • The legacy of Partition
  • India’s rise as a space power, featuring Chandrayaan, Aditya L1, and Group Captain Subhanshu Shukla’s mission to the International Space Station

These modules align with the NCF 2023 and NEP 2020 emphasis on experiential learning, Indian heritage, and current affairs in school education.

Timeline and Next Steps

  • Finalisation is expected very soon, with launch likely in the coming weeks.
  • Content will be made available digitally through NCERT’s website, with printable versions for schools to use.

Political & Public Response

The move arrives amid rising public and political interest, including calls in Bihar and Uttarakhand to integrate Operation Sindoor into regional school and madrassa curricula. Supporters argue that including such modules will foster patriotism and national pride among young learners.

Parliament is also scheduled to discuss the Pahalgam terror attacks and Operation Sindoor in the ongoing Monsoon Session, where members of both Houses are expected to address the operation’s strategic dimensions.

What It Means

This initiative marks a notable shift in India’s education policy—bringing military strategy, current events, and patriotic themes into classroom learning. By weaving Operation Sindoor into formal education, NCERT seeks to deepen students’ understanding of national security, statecraft, and India’s role on the global stage.
