Every free nation of the world has its own flag, it is symbol of a free nation. The national flag of India is the pride of all citizens of the country and represents our hopes and aspirations. India will be celebrating its 72nd Republic Day this year and for the first time in over five decades there will be no chief guest at this year Republic Day parade.

Here are 10 interesting facts about out National Flag ;

#1 The design of the flag of India that was first presented in 1921 was created by Pingali Venkayya, who was a freedom fighter from Andhra Pradesh.
#2 The current Indian flag which you get to see has undergone at least 6 amendments. During the period of Independence, several other designs of Indian flag were used and adopted.

#3 The National Flag was adopted in its present form during a meeting of the constituent assembly held on 22nd July 1947.

#4 The flag was hoisted first time by Sacchindra Prasad Bose in 1906 at Parsi Bagan Square, in Calcutta.
#5 Bhikaji Rustom Cama was the first Indian who raised the flag on foreign soil, in Germany.
#6 Tenzing Norgay hoisted the Indian National flag on Mount Everest for the first time on 29th May 1953.
#7 1939 – 45 During world war Subhash Chandra Bose used the flag { without the spinning wheel } in territories his Japan- aided army has captured.
#8 In 1971, the Indian flag went into space on board Apollo – 15.
#9 It flew into space as a medallion on the spacesuit worn by cosmonaut wing commander Rakesh Sharma, during the indo soviet joint space flight in April 1984
# 10 The original cloth flag can be made by only one place called the Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta or KKGSS.
