While some of us may enjoy brief moments of sunshine during the May holiday weekend, much of the country faces severe weather conditions as storms and gales sweep through several provinces. The Government Centre for Security (RCB) has issued alerts warning residents to seek shelter and stay informed as dangerous weather approaches.
According to meteorologists at IMGW, Poland is under the influence of a warm air mass and an advancing cold front moving in from the northwest. This clash of air systems is expected to trigger thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds, particularly on Friday.
RCB alerts have been sent to residents in the provinces of Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Mazowieckie, Łódzkie, Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian, and parts of Lower Silesia. Wind gusts may reach up to 90 km/h, with the potential for hail and local flooding.

“Attention! Today (02/05) local thunderstorms and very strong wind are forecast. During the storm, find a safe shelter. Follow weather reports,” read the official alert from RCB.
Storm conditions may lead to power outages and material damage, prompting authorities to urge people to avoid open spaces and unsecured structures.
Friday’s temperatures are expected to range from 17°C along the coast to as high as 27°C in western regions. While some southeastern areas such as Upper Silesia, Małopolska, Subcarpathia, and the Lublin Region may see less storm activity, most of the country will experience variable cloudiness, heavy showers, and possible hail.
Overnight, conditions will remain unstable with more storms expected in central and southwestern regions. Winds will remain gusty, particularly along the coast and in mountainous areas.
The Storm Watchers Network has also issued warnings, attributing the turbulent weather to a shifting cold front. Residents are advised to monitor forecasts and follow safety instructions throughout the holiday weekend.
